Research Projects and Publications

Tony Lowe directed the excavation of the Old Sydney Burial Ground, Sydney Town Hall. This was one of a number of excavation projects he has undertaken on this site. He co-authored a paper on the cemetery in 1992. The finalised  archaeological report for this project  involved considerable research into burial practices, isotope and skeletal analysis and the creation of a burials’ database.

A number of excavations on which Tony was the site director have garnered the attention of the Australian media. They include:

• Japanese prisoner of war’s ashes recovered at War Cemetery in Cooma – Article from the SBS with video and pictures – 13th September, 2015.
• Barker’s Mill Excavated while building the Cross City Tunnel – SMH Article – 13th March 2004.
